“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.”
―  Orhan Pamuk, My Name Is Red

Arana would suggest all animals speak if you listen and has been conversing with animals from a young age. Even as a child, she wanted to be a vet and studied at the University of Sydney. After working in small animal practice on the Central Coast of NSW and in the United Kingdom for several years, Arana returned to Australia to pursue her interest in the zoo and wildlife field at the Australia Zoo QLD Wildlife Hospital. It was here, working on injured koalas, that her journey to surgical specialisation began.

In 2010 Arana returned to Sydney to complete a one-year mixed internship followed by a residency for specialist training in Small Animal Surgery.

Arana is passionate about enhancing the lives of her patients and their companion humans through compassionate and professional care. Working closely with referring vets enables her to maintain continuity of care — even after they leave MediPaws.  She believes every challenge has numerous possible solutions and makes time to help her clients navigate what are sometimes difficult decisions. Her interests are in oncological surgery and soft tissue reconstruction, but she finds all areas of Small Animal Surgery rewarding.

When not working with the surgical team at MediPaws, she can be found teaching at the University of Sydney Veterinary department, working with the Veterinary team at Sydney Zoo, or playing in the park with her two young sons and their canine siblings .
