Dr Kelly Caruso

BSc, VMD, MACVSc, DACVO

Kelly is a pioneering Veterinary Ophthalmologist and partner owner of Eye Clinic for Animals Australia. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997, following a Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. Joseph’s University. After completing internships in multiple specialties, Kelly pursued a residency in Ophthalmology under Professor Seth Koch, a founding member of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO), becoming a Member in 2007.

In 2010, Kelly moved to Australia and, alongside her husband Dr Cameron Whittaker, became a partner owner of Eye Clinic for Animals. Together, they have two children and share their home with three dogs and two cats.

Kelly’s career is marked by innovative contributions, including pioneering the use of Restylane for reconstructing eyelid defects in cats and leading the first-ever corneal endothelial transplant in veterinary medicine. Her work in developing specialised instruments for canine patients, such as the HENSLA series, reflects her commitment to advancing veterinary care.

Passionate about teaching, Kelly has received numerous awards for her mentorship of interns and residents. Her dedication to research and education has resulted in several published works that further the field of veterinary ophthalmology.
