Dr Sonya Yu cares for pets with cancer. Her approach is warm, tailored and transparent: clear options, clear reasoning, and a plan built around the pet’s quality of life and the family’s goals. She focuses on what’s best for the patient in front of her, by weighing up what each option is likely to achieve, and what it asks of the pet and the family, financially and emotionally.

She graduated from the University of Sydney and took the scenic route through the veterinary world, from an internal medicine internship to emergency medicine, before specialising in veterinary oncology after completing her residency and Fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.

Sonya is especially interested in comparative (One Health) medicine and aims to study naturally occurring conditions in pets as a bridge between veterinary and human medicine, to help improve diagnosis and treatment for both.
