MediPaws is participating in a multi-centre clinical trial, led by the University of Melbourne, investigating a novel treatment approach for dogs with splenic haemangiosarcoma. This study evaluates the use of an autologous tumour vaccine (a personalised vaccine made from your dog’s own tumour) in combination with standard chemotherapy (doxorubicin).
This research has been reviewed and approved by the University of Melbourne Animal Ethics Committee (Project ID 35274).

Eligibility
Dogs may be eligible if they:
- Have a confirmed diagnosis of splenic haemangiosarcoma
- Have undergone splenectomy (surgical removal of the spleen)
- Have no visible evidence of metastatic disease prior to starting chemotherapy
- Are planned to receive doxorubicin chemotherapy

What’s involved?
What happens in the study?
Your dog will receive standard chemotherapy as planned. The study adds a personalised vaccine created from the original tumour tissue.
Treatment and monitoring are performed alongside routine oncology care.
Participation requirements
There are no major additional procedures beyond standard treatment and follow-up.
Participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.
Costs
The autologous vaccine is provided free of charge.
Standard veterinary care, including chemotherapy and associated costs, are not covered by the study.
